Food Preparation

Food preparation is the skill of cooking, seasoning and preparing foods in different restaurants or food establishments.

Food preparers are sometimes individuals used in restaurants to help out the chefs and cooks. Chefs and cooks create recipes and prepare meals, while food preparation workers peel and cut vegetables, trim meat, prepare poultry, and perform other duties such as keeping work areas clean and monitoring temperatures of ovens and stovetops. They perform repetitive tasks such as readying ingredients for complex dishes, slicing and dicing vegetables, and creating salads and preparing and slicing meats under the supervision of the chefs and/or cooks. They will measure the ingredients and stir soups and sauces. Food preparation workers may cut and grind meats, poultry, and seafood in preparation for cooking. The food preparation workers are also responsible for making sure work areas are clean along with utensils and equipment.
